Meditation and Yoga
Healing the body, mind, and soul together is a necessary component of a rewarding recovery from addiction and dual diagnosis mental health conditions.
Meditation and Yoga are two types of therapies that work well together for improving mental focus and clarity.
We have taught many of our clients how to meditate and practice yoga. A number of our alumni credit learning these skills as some of the greatest strengths of their sobriety. Clients discover a newfound freedom through building a regular meditation and yoga practice.
Through our experience, we have discovered that abstinence alone from alcohol or drugs is insufficient for a complete recovery. Many clients realize truly achieving “emotional sobriety” requires relief from an overactive mind through slowing down life’s responses.
Oro House Co-Founder Evan Haines says, “Building up this “non-reaction” to life through all of its many shades of pain or happiness, by sitting in the stillness of meditation, grants us (as addicts) true freedom, and a maturity never before experienced. I consider this to be the true essence of having what is commonly referred to as a spiritual experience… something any of us can achieve, no matter where we are in the scale of life.”
Equine Vision Ride and Equine Assisted Therapy
The Oro House Equine Vision Ride is a one of a kind experience that is unique to the addiction treatment community and not found anywhere else.
The Vision Ride is an individualized, one on one riding program offered throughout the week that is not only effective, but also healing on so many levels. The intention behind this therapy is to step into the present moment with continual awareness.
Every person naturally opens up when riding a horse, and we use metaphors to see where we are in our life, how we got here, and where we are going.
Simply being around horses is incredibly grounding and helps put our clients in a different state of mind. Horses live outside of the human mental world and they deliver us to a place that is non-judgmental and accepting of where we are in the present moment, away from distractions.
Being on a horse creates a clear and kind relationship, filled with honest communication that extends towards our self and others.
Another beautiful piece of our Vision Ride is simply being out in nature. We like to ride in the Santa Monica Mountains and down into Zuma Creek, where the natural world is abundant, alive, and ever changing.
In addition to the Vision Riding Program, we also have a more traditional Equine Assisted Therapy that is only available at a select few treatment centers.
Our traditional Equine Therapy is available for groups of our clients to experience together and involves a bit of riding as well, but not as much as the Vision Ride.

Surfing (One on One)
Oro House leverages our close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and we created an individualized surfing program for our clients who want to take advantage of it.
Surfing is another unique type of therapy that is only available to a handful of treatment centers who have access to the ocean.
Our clients who have surfed before appreciate that we offer this, and those who have never previously experienced it come to realize it is much more involved than simply finding a wave and standing up on a board.
Surfing is an excellent physical workout for the entire body that involves swimming, paddling, and balance. From a mental perspective, it requires a bit of patience, control, and surrender.
We call our surfing program “Saltwater Sanity” and it provides a challenging experience that teaches us to not give up and keep moving forward in life.
Like with the equine programs, surfing gives our clients a chance to dive into the healing powers of nature, clear the mind of stress, elevate mood, and improve attention span.
No previous surfing experience is required to reap the rewards of this exceptionally effective recovery therapy.
Sound Therapy
Sound Therapy, also known as Sound Healing, is a holistic treatment method that uses sound vibrations to encourage relaxation and healing. We’ve found the therapeutic effects have been remarkable for those struggling with mental health disorders and other physical issues.
Oro Recovery’s Sober Zen is a regular Sound Bath and Meditation experience that uses sound therapy to promote deep relaxation and open the body’s energy systems. This is useful for both the mind and body and instills a sense of wellness to aid in overall healing.
Other Wellness Programs and Amenities
In addition to the unique and special wellness programs and activities mentioned, Oro House clients can take advantage of massage, Reiki, hiking, on-site gym membership, and others to promote healing for the mind, body, and soul.
We believe a holistic approach of using evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment therapies together with holistic wellness programs produces the best outcomes for our clients.
Oro House is continually updating and adding new programs and activities to maintain our world-class treatment center prominence.
Daily organic, chef-prepared meals, housekeeping services, luxurious guest rooms, healthy snacks, chauffeured transportation to appointments, and outdoor barbecue areas are a few of the amenities that create a comfortable and positive healing experience for our clients.
