Outpatient Addiction Treatment in Los Angeles and Malibu

After completing a residential treatment program, individuals are ready to move on to the next step of recovery in the Oro House Outpatient Addiction Treatment Program in Los Angeles and Malibu.

Outpatient treatment is the next lowest level of care after leaving the inpatient program, and some of our clients will move to a local sober living home. We utilize a preferred network of sober living facilities that maintain a high standard of quality and offer safe, alcohol and drug-free environments.

The length of time and intensity of the Oro House outpatient program will vary depending on each person’s individual needs.

Some of the more in-depth therapeutic work occurs during the outpatient phase of treatment, since each client is now ready to go deeper into the root causes of their emotional issues only after they experience the first few weeks of being clean and sober.

The Outpatient Treatment Program is a continuation of the work people began in the inpatient setting, often times with the same therapists. One-on-one and group therapy will be similar and familiar.

During the Outpatient Program, clients will be challenged with more advanced concepts, and apply concrete tools they’ll use to flourish and thrive in their recovery. The focus will be on launching the client forward and transitioning into life after treatment.

IOP Treatment and PHP Treatment

There are two levels of outpatient treatment available to our clients based on their individual needs and circumstances – IOP and PHP.

IOP and PHP programs both offer a high level of care in an outpatient setting, and include more flexibility than a residential program.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program, or IOP for short, offers the most flexibility of the two outpatient programs and incorporates a structured model of care that is focused on maintaining sobriety and fine-tuning recovery.

The IOP program is part-time (day or evening) for 3 days a week and usually includes 10 to 15 hours of work each week.

The Oro House Intensive Outpatient Program is ideal for clients who continue to work and maintain a personal life at home while attending therapy sessions a few hours a day, several days each week at our facilities.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The Oro House Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a full-time outpatient program for 6 to 8 hours per day, five days a week at our facilities. Unlike residential treatment, our clients do not stay overnight with us, and either return home each night or stay at a sober living facility.

A PHP program is well suited for our clients to retain a normal life outside of treatment while still benefitting from full-time therapy care each week.

PHP Treatment is a gentle way for our clients to transition from inpatient to outpatient care when they still have a lot of work to do in recovery. This stage focuses on relapse prevention and other necessary support methods from the treatment team.

Transitioning to Outpatient Treatment

Before our clients are discharged from residential care, they undergo an assessment by their doctor and treatment staff that includes a review of their history and progress made during recovery.

We provide a full and comprehensive assessment for every client, so they receive the proper level of treatment specifically tailored to meet their individual needs.

Those who have made sufficient progress but still require more work may be recommended to continue therapy in an outpatient setting in either an IOP or PHP program.

Even though outpatient clients will not be staying at our facilities each night, they will meet at Oro House every week according to their schedule and will still have access to many of the features and services they had during inpatient treatment.

Doctors and Psychiatric Follow-Ups

Our consulting physician is an addiction specialist, who is able to prescribe and manage medications for treating any accompanying medical issues when necessary.

We believe those suffering from addiction need an advocate for the entire process of recovery. So we provide each client with full and comprehensive case management beginning with the first phone call and continuing through outpatient treatment and aftercare.

Our doctors and addiction specialists are available to provide help, guidance, comfort, and support through the difficult time of recovery, including both inpatient and outpatient.

Drug Testing Program

Comprehensive drug monitoring is an integral component of care for our clients in the outpatient program. Frequent and highly accurate drug testing provides a level of accountability, and guarantees our clients remain sober while in our monitoring program.

Oro House partners with a toxicology laboratory with state-of-the-art liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry instrumentation and automated laboratory testing for fast and accurate quantitative results.

Group Counseling

Group counseling sessions serve as a core aspect of successful alcohol and drug addiction outpatient treatment. Group sessions cover a variety of topics such as addiction education, relapse prevention, relationships, and life skills.

Group sessions take place daily, Monday to Friday, and provide a safe and structured environment where people learn about the disease of addiction in a supportive and encouraging setting with others also in treatment.

All group counseling sessions are run by licensed or certified therapists and counselors who specialize in addiction treatment.

Individual Counseling

Individual, one-on-one counseling sessions offer our clients the opportunity to better understand their addiction and work on ways to sustain a successful recovery in an individualized setting with licensed therapists, certified chemical dependency counselors, and job counselors.

Our therapists, counselors, and clients all work together to develop ways to maintain sobriety, prevent relapse, and build a responsible life after they leave treatment. Each client receives at least one, one-on-one session per week.

Family and Couples Counseling

Addiction affects not only the individual with substance abuse issues, but also the entire family as well. Family groups and private family counseling sessions provide the addicted client and his or her loved ones the opportunity to work on the recovery process together.

The underlying love family members have for each other often gets lost in the disagreements and conflicts caused by the disease of addiction.

Family and couples counseling sessions provide opportunities for loved ones to reconnect and overcome the illness together, increasing the chances for a successful recovery.

Family groups and private sessions take place every Saturday, along with a fun family outing, which gives everyone a chance to get to know other people who are going through the same thing and receive support together.

Recreational Activities

The Oro House Outpatient Treatment Program offers our clients opportunities for numerous experiential and recreational outings. These activities include yoga, hiking, horseback riding, stand up paddle boarding, volunteering, and other fun excursions.

We truly believe that getting people involved in these activities increases the body’s natural endorphin systems, which serves as a healthy substitute for the feelings of pleasure and reward they once craved through drugs or alcohol.

Our experience has shown that people in recovery respond positively to recreational activity on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. It is a catalyst for developing a sense of purpose and connection, which is a motivating force for alcohol and drug addiction recovery.

Professionals Rehab Program

The Oro House Professionals Rehab Program was created for those who have either not lost their jobs, who are wanting to re-enter their profession, or who are experiencing high functioning addiction.

The sober living facility for our clients in the professionals program is designed specifically for an adult, executive clientele.

The recovery program takes place during three nights in the evening, from 6 pm until 9 pm, and one weekend day. This schedule reflects the fact that people are busy putting their professional houses back in order during daytime hours.

Young Adult Program

In recent years, we have witnessed a trend of more and more young people entering treatment for addiction.

The treatment industry in general has been slow to adapt to this changing demographic, and there is now a widespread problem of young people experiencing a failure to launch, with little to no experience in the work force, or a basic understanding of the responsibilities of adulthood.

Beginning employment around the age of 17 is an extremely important developmental milestone that young people are missing out on today and it needs to be addressed in this new era of chemical dependency treatment.

At Oro House, our inpatient and outpatient programs help our younger clients learn the fundamentals needed to function and thrive in the adult world. We do this by teaching practical life-skills, and accelerating their transformation into adulthood.

We believe that instead of reinforcing the problem of learned helplessness, we help them achieve a state of autonomy.

The heart of our work is geared toward nurturing our young clients to achieve the freedom to live their own lives. And along the way, we have some fun in the process, because without joy, experiencing a sober life is next to impossible.
