Dr. Shelby Ash, PsyD
Dr. Shelby Ash completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University, Santa Barbara.
Shelby has also completed several years of intensive training in psychodynamic and relational therapy at The Saturday Center for Psychotherapy.
In addition, she has a wide range of experience working with individuals, couples, and families in inpatient treatment settings such as Beit T’Shuvah and Seasons, as well as various private practice settings.
She believes that addiction can be best understood by looking at underlying dynamics in one’s psyche and life, which ultimately allows an individual to understand and find compassion for their various afflictions and motivations to self-medicate. It’s this understanding, in conjunction with the cultivation of life skills, that leads to progress.
In private practice, Shelby specializes in childhood trauma and more specifically how it impacts interpersonal relationships in adulthood in the here and now. She also has ample experience working with anxiety, depression, spirituality, sexuality, grief, and self-esteem.
Having done research on complex trauma, Shelby believes that ‘play’ is an essential component of therapy and strives to bring a playful, yet challenging, approach in dealing with difficult realities.
Shelby is a Registered Psychological Associate through the Board of Psychology, #PSB94027235 and is supervised by Dr. Itay Kohane, #PSY 32550.
